Setting a Plan to Protect Your Brand
TIK TOK… It’s time to own your platform..
You’ve probably witnessed someone in your circles posting about and being affected by the near-shutdown of TikTok this past week. Maybe it affected you. If you aren’t in the know, long story short = TikTok has been in legal battles since 2020, ending with it locking US users out of it’s platform January 19th for a brief stint, and then allowing us back in less than a day later.
If this recent scare taught us anything, it’s that putting all your eggs in one social media basket is risky. Platforms can change overnight – whether they shut down, shift their values, or implement new rules that don’t align with your goals. & if your audience doesn’t know where else to find you, you risk losing a large, valuable chunk of supporters.
The good news? You can take control of your audience connections and future-proof your business by diversifying your touchpoints. Here’s how:
OWN YOUR WEBSITE
Your website is your home base. Make sure it’s up-to-date, optimized, and provides a clear way for your audience to connect with you. If a follower knows how to locate your website, no change is social accounts can keep them from finding you.
BUILD AN EMAIL LIST
Email is one of the most reliable ways to stay in touch with your audience. Offer value (like a free resource or exclusive content) in exchange for newsletter sign-ups. Collect subscribers like Pokemon Go. Your email list is your space - you can grow it, evolve it, and adapt it any way you see fit.
CREATE EVERGREEN CONTENT
Evergreen content = content that remains valuable to your audience over time. Posting blogs, videos, and resources on your site to ensure your expertise lives on and keeps attracting new people. Set a goal to post something new weekly or bi-weekly to keep your website growing and flowing.
LEVERAGE MULTIPLE PLATFORMS
Don’t rely on just one social platform. Cross-promote your content on Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, or wherever your audience hangs out. When you grow on multiple platforms, you have a fall-back in case the reliability on one of them shifts.
OFFER A CONSISTENT EXPERIENCE
Whether it’s your branding, voice, or the value you deliver, make sure your audience knows what to expect across all platforms. You can adapt your content to different platforms, but don’t check your personality at the door to fit in with a specific app. Define yourself holistically and make sure you’re portraying your brand, your vibe, to it’s fullest, everywhere.
By diversifying your audience touchpoints, you’ll protect your hard work and create deeper, more meaningful connections with your community.
